This is an attempt to design sustainable materials and technology for low income housing as a part of [co] design 2011: A Future Beyond Concrete. The focus of the competition is on appropriate technology to be embedded locally. The challenge for competition participants is to design alternatives to concrete and cement, that are, applicable and appropriate for the Bangalore Housing project. Inspired by Lego Bricks, a simple scheme was created where a fixed mould was design in a way that local laterite soil can be compressed and composed into people's shelter.
