Approaching City of Perth as an existing and rich text, one which can be read, comprehended, and expanded, the project is not about ‘urban design’ as an exercise in place-making (to place-make is to suggest the city’s character is not already there), nor is it about formal gestures or architectural posturing. The development process informs the design action towards Perth city proper, it does not determine its form. The project is an attempt to analyze and interpret the present condition of disruption through a diverse range of speculative projects that propose a scenario of future City of Perth. The project represented in this thematic section focus on developing processes of work, rather than on the seduction of the final product.
